Yesterday, reports surfaced that Microsoft would be cutting almost 10,000 jobs from its global workforce on January 15. Microsoft is apparently keeping quiet on these reports, responding to emails with the classic "we do not provide comment on rumor and speculation" line. A report on CNBC quoted a source as saying the reports were "grossly exaggerated." We will see in 9 days, either way.

Speaking to the official Playstation.com, Sony executives say they are looking forward to 2009. 2009 will be a "very exciting" year for PS3, said David Reeves, with games like Heavy Rain and Killzone 2 on the release schedule. Along with this there will be the music and video download service, and of course, PSN HOME, finally. Add to this the PSP connectivity and "some more big titles and innovations" that have not even been announced yet, and the Sony camp says 2009 will be a prime example of Playstation at its best.

A new, direct-feed, Tekken 6 gameplay video has surfaced on the net. It shows the full battle between King and Feng. To be honest, it looks good, but it does not look head and shoulders better than any of the other great-looking fighters. It will be Tekken all over again, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

For those who had not read the ridiculous rumor, there were reports circulating the net that Microsoft planned to use Sony's PSN HOME virtual space in order to hold online meetings. Well, Microsoft apparently felt the need to quash those rumors, and has stated they are not planning any such use of Sony's HOME service. If anyone already has the infrastructure to host virtual meetings, it is Microsoft, we would think

"With fantastic Microsoft-developed products and applications like Live Meeting and even Xbox Live Party, we have everything we need to host a virtual meeting in-house," MS said.

The legendary Yuji Naka, Sonic the Hedgehog co-creator, spoke with Gamasutra. He reveals just why he left Sega, and formed his new company, Prope. It seems like he reached the height of his ladder at Sega, so it was time to move on.

"I could have stayed under Sega itself, but I already had a very high position there, the game industry has a very short history behind it, and as a result, the more games you make, the further you work your way up the company ladder, until you become one of the heads of the whole outfit," he says. "Once that happens, you start running out of time to actually make games."
