Variety is reporting that Universal and Pirates of the Caribbean man Gore Verbinski are planning to make a film based on the online MMO Second Life. The film is apparently inspired by a Wall Street Journal article called "Is This Man Cheating On His Wife?" The movie will be about how the main character gradually loses his real life to his life online, and the dangers of MMO games.

Youtube has a shakycam video of the trailer for the new Star Trek movie. This new movie, directed by Lost man J.J. Abrams, is a supposed "reboot" of the franchise, just like the recent two Bond movies were. Let's hope it works out as well, it looks promising.

EA has announced officially that it has signed a deal with Universal Pictures to release a movie based on the game Army of Two. The game sounds like it would make a perfect buddy picture, but game movies have been mediocre, at best, lately. Here's hopin'."Army of Two is a great project that has already attracted top name talent, and we're glad to be working with Electronic Arts on making this hit game into a film franchise," said Donna Langley, president of Production at Universal Pictures.

This is likely just a first weekend spike, but 20th Century's Max Payne was tops at the box office this past weekend. 18 Million USD the film grossed, which may stand to reason since the game itself was based on a film-noir style, so making it into a movie was not as hard as other game to movie converts.Variety was one of the few publications to praise the movie as "a reasonably convincing and atmospheric simulacrum of the game’s interactive environment," but conceded that "it’s not nearly as much fun as actually playing the game."

Ever play a game and say to yourself, wow, this would make a great movie? Well, that happened to us with Mass Effect, and it looks like it happened to others. According to Variety, Producer Avi Arad has optioned the rights from EA to make Mass Effect into a holywood movie. This is great news, because if done well, it will make a great sci-fi epic. Arad has recently built up a solid fantasy/sci-fi Hollywood resume which includes X-men, Spider-Man,and Iron Man. He runs his own company now which has also picked up Lost Planet. Great news!

Well, the rumors were true. 3D Realms has decided to make Duke Nukem into a Hollywood Big-budget Film. The producer of the upcoming Max Payne movie is going to head up the project, and work on the Duke Nukem scenario for the movie that will live up the game's history will begin soon. The Max Payne movie has taken almost 10 years to realize, so we know that this producer will not settle for a mediocre script. This is good news, folks, but if the movie is delayed as long as Duke Nukem Forever, we will have a new favorite game world joke!

The first movie stills from the Prince of Persia set have been revealed, and holy cow, talk about a beef-up! Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal looks like he ate a pound of steroids a day. His name in Hollywood right now is apparently "the Prince Of Beefcake." You will see why when you click the image link.
